Pakistan’s EU GSP+ Status: First Year Performance & Future Potential

Pakistan’s GSP+ status under the European Union’s (EU) new Generalised Scheme of Preferences came into effect as of 1 January 2014. GSP+ provides 0% preferential tariff rates on approximately 66% (over 6,200) of the EU’s tariff lines. The EU is Pakistan’s largest trading partner; importing USD 8.1 Billion, or 33% of Pakistan’s total exports, in 2014.This report analyses the impact of GSP+ status on EU imports from Pakistan in 2014, particularly on its top 50 imports from Pakistan at HS6 digit level; it then identifies high potential products at HS6 digit level; projects potential for growth in Pakistan’s exports to the EU in the coming years; and highlights key issues that need to be urgently addressed.
